Description | Reprints an article from the Asheville Citizen Times that described the rediscovery of this natural tunnel and the redirection of the trail to Mount LeConte via Alum Cave. Wiley Oakley told the trail landscape architect, who moved the CCC work crew to take advantage of this interesting geological feature. The article concludes with a description of the current hike and an estimate of its completion, "It depends upon the weather."
